After a Crisis: Team Self Evaluation
PAVILION After A Crisis Self Evaluation Template.xlsx
It's been said that those who forget history are doomed to relive it. When a crisis hits, everyone must act quickly. This includes communication professionals. But after the dust has settled, it is always a good idea to assess how your team handled the crisis.
Attention!
Check with your unit to ensure there are no local templates that should be used instead.
Learning from the latest incident will better prepare you to act quickly and properly the next time crisis communication is needed. This template will help you and your team honestly evaluate your performance after a crisis has ended, using the following metrics.
Were your initial and following responses:
- Timely?
- Informative and accurate?
- Genuine?
- Credible?
- Respectful?
Each member of your team will evaluate and rate these aspects of performance and explain why the rating was given. There are also fields to capture additional notes as well as suggested future steps that may be needed for the current crisis.
A summary tab is provided to help easily compile and report the evaluation results and facilitate a team discussion regarding lessons learned.
You may find it useful to conduct this evaluation immediately after the crisis is over, and then again with the same participants two weeks later. Perspectives can change after some time has passed and the respondents are not as tightly invested in the work. Both timeframes provide different but equally valuable information.
Along those same lines, you may also consider having one or more participants outside of the team conduct evaluations as well. These perspectives will offer additional insight that may be missed by those closest to the response being evaluated.
