Community Noise Notifications: Loud Exercise PSA
PAVILION LOUD EXERCISE PSA 20211209.DOCX
Use this template to alert and educate the local community regarding potentially noisy exercises.
Attention!
Check with your unit to ensure there are no local templates that should be used instead.
Managing noise complaints starts with community education. The more informed a surrounding community is, the more they can prepare for an exercise that might otherwise feel alarming and disruptive. It is always best to provide context for the exercise. Understanding how an exercise benefits the military and the surrounding community can soothe frayed nerves and allow the public to feel in control, as they can plan around heavy traffic, noise or other consequences.
Use this public service announcement template to inform the community about:
- The type of event
- The event's date, time and duration
- The event's purpose
- How the event will be useful to the military and/or greater community
- Internal and external parties that will be involved
- How the event may impact community life
- Where and who to contact for more information
A PSA uses transparency to establish community trust. Timely and consistent notifications can lower the number of noise complaints and improve public relations, which should always be a priority. Publish the PSA to owned communication platforms; send it to local media contacts, and post it to other community pages to get the message out.
