Write a news release after an event has occurred. Use this template to write a concise news release that includes:
- A lead that covers the 5Ws (i.e., who, what, when, where and why)
- A bridge
- A body with quotations
- An optional boilerplate statement
- Contact information
NOTE: Depending on the urgency of the situation and the type of event, the news release may not require all these parts.
Distributing Your News Release
Convert the finished news release into a PDF and distribute via email or direct the media to a link on your organization's website that hosts a digital copy of your media kit and/or news releases. Make sure all information is reviewed and approved by leadership and released by persons with release authority to speak to the media.
