This episode from the Blank Slate video series focuses on flash photography. The 3rd Audiovisual Squadron share essential tips to help capture your subject in the most aesthetically pleasing way possible, even when the location or access to your subject is not ideal.
The tips include:
- Know your gear. Make sure you know how it all works before you head out the door.
- Get to the location early and ask a bystander for help to take test shots. This will help you determine how to adjust your camera settings for the best shot.
- Understand how to use the manual and TTL (through the lens) mode on your flash unit to determine which will work best for the event you are photographing.
- Know how to avoid blasting your subjects with flash. Experiment with bouncing the flash off of the ceiling using a diffuser or a flashcard.
