Use this template to write an initial homicide of victim news release that includes:

  • Date, time and place
  • Name and assignment of the victim, if releasable
  • Summary of the circumstances
  • Information about the pronunciation of death
  • Investigation updates

Distributing Your News Release

Convert the news release into a PDF and distribute via email or social media, or direct the media to a link on your organization's website that hosts a digital copy of your media kit and/or news releases. Ensure all information is reviewed and approved by leadership and released by persons with release authority to speak to the media.
